Essential Transportation
Whistlestop Wheels provides paratransit services for elderly and disabled persons of Marin County who are deemed eligible under criteria set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Eligible persons may schedule rides for any purpose with no restriction or priority, on a first-come/first-served basis. Rides are typically scheduled for medical appointments, shopping, therapy, or visits with family and friends. In short, paratransit service is provided for any purpose where one might use a fixed route bus.
In addition, Whistlestop Wheels provides transportation for a number of special programs, which meet the needs of Marin's elderly and disabled community, including Senior Access and E.A.H.
Whistlestop Wheels also operates the Novato Health Express, a medical-only shuttle service for elderly and disabled residents of the Novato area provided in cooperation with Novato Community Hospital, a Sutter Health affiliate.
Other services operated by Whistlestop Wheels to meet special needs within the specific communities they serve include: the Hamilton Shuttle and EZ Rider in Novato.
Over 140,000 trips of all types provided per year.
- Over 23,000 trips per year for individuals using wheelchairs.
- 49 buses equipped to meet the travel needs of passengers who use wheelchairs.
- Approximately 1.23 million miles driven during one year.
- Funding for local paratransit service provided by the Marin County Transit District.
- Funding for inter-county paratransit service provided by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District.
